One Thing - 7/28/14

Last night was the first of many hard goodbyes for our family here in Wahoo. We invited a family from our church over to share a meal with us. Since we are moving and they are leaving this week on a 3-week trip, we both contributed to the meal with things that had to be eaten up - lasagna, garden green beans, salad, bread, cookies, and jello (I never make jello. But, I had a box in the cupboard and the theme of the meal was to use up what we had!). It was a wonderful time of fellowship one last time here in Wahoo with this family. They have two boys (maybe 11 and 13?) that have been such kind friends to our boys. It was sad to say goodbye to these friends!

One Thing - 7/27/14

Our 2nd annual combined worship service at our county fairgrounds was held this morning. Mike brought the message this morning from Psalm 46. Despite a very warm and humid past week, this morning was beautiful! The idea for this service came out of our church and a like-minded church in our town desiring to work together for the gospel in our city. Since we already work together for VBS which was last week and since our county fair starts this week, this Sunday seemed to be the perfect time to worship together. Another church joined us this year. After the service, we enjoyed a potluck lunch in the pavilion. This newly formed tradition is one we are definitely going to miss!

One Thing - 7/26/14

A kind woman from our church hosted a Baby Shower/Farewell for me today. We all enjoyed the time of fellowship and of learning a little more about each other as each woman had written a story about herself on a piece of paper. I had to read each one and then we guessed who the story was about. I am definitely going to miss these women! I wish I would have gotten a picture of those who were at the shower. At least I got one with sweet Jessica. She has loved our kids from the day we arrived in Wahoo!

One Thing - 7/21/14

I could post a few pictures of our first evening of VBS, but while uploading VBS pictures I found these from Saturday afternoon at the pool and had to share.

One Thing - 7/18/14

We were all amazed to watch the viral video of the young woman who recently competed in American Ninja Warrior. At one point, Lydia called her a monkey. Sy made me feel pretty good when he said, "you could do that, Mommy." This morning, Silas ran around the playground pretending he was on the show:

One Thing - 7/12/14

In yesterday's post, I said that this past week was a busy one - busy with tons of home selling/buying tasks. We praise God that we were able to have a contract on a house to buy in Mora in place on a Tuesday at the end of June and then had an offer on our house here in Wahoo just 3 days later! This past week was the week of inspections - home inspection on the house in Mora, furnace inspection, fire place inspection, termite inspection, radon mitigation estimate on our house here in Wahoo. On top of that, there was more negotiation on closing dates for both houses (originally our closing date in Wahoo was a week and a half before our closing in Mora). Plus we worked on getting insurance quotes for home/auto in Minnesota.  And, we had tons of paperwork to deal with for our new mortgage. This week it seemed like selling and buying houses became a full-time job. Thankfully, everything went great! As far as we know, all that is left is the appraisals of both homes. Assuming all continues to go as planned, we will be out of Wahoo and moved into our home in Mora in less than a month! By the end of the week we were all feeling the need to get out of the house, get our minds on something else, and have some fun. So, Chick-fil-a's Cow Appreciation Day came at a perfect time. Dress like a cow and get a free meal - fun and thrifty! Even though the closest Chick-fil-a is nearly an hour away in a suburb of Omaha, we made an evening out of it.

Jude looks like he doesn't want anyone messing with his Chikin

Cow Boys

And a Cow Girl

Lydia was half frightened and half intrigued by the giant cow. All throughout our meal, she would point and exclaim "Cow! There it is!" But, any time the cow would come close and try to interact with her she looked a little freaked out.

At the end of our meal, we enjoyed visiting with an elderly couple sitting at the table next to us. They couldn't believe that we didn't pay a dime for our meal because we dressed like cows. Maybe we should have shared our spots?!

One Thing - 7/11/14

It's been a busy week at our house (more on that in another post). Jonah and Silas started swimming lessons this week. They have 30 minute lessons back to back, so we have been spending part of our mornings at the park by the pool all week.

One Thing - 7/6/14

Our friends Bob and Natalie and their 2 year old boy are back in Omaha for a short time as Bob had another round of chemo and Natalie is due any day with baby#2. On this steamy hot afternoon, we got our families together for our kids to play at a mall play place and then out for supper. The kids has a blast playing together. And, we enjoyed our time to chat with dear friends. We are so thankful for the fellowship of this brother and sister in Christ!

The workers at Chilis were so gracious to us as we dined with a 5, 4, 2, 1, and a newborn. We loved spending some time with Grant. He is a sweet bundle of fun!

So thankful for and encouraged by this kind friend!

One Thing - 7/5/14

At one month old, Jude is very strong. He has been rolling from tummy to back pretty regularly for the past few weeks (yes, since he was about 2 weeks old!). He may be keeping us on our toes in the coming months and years!
