One Thing - 10/29/14

We carved pumpkins last night. Jude slept through most of the excitement and missed the group pictures. It was a fun (and messy) time!

One Thing - 10/16/14

Lydia was playing so well by herself this morning while I did school with Jonah. Maybe I should have checked on her a bit sooner!

One Thing - 10/15/14

This guy never ceases to make us laugh. We were all rolling in laughter at Sy's bread goatee at supper tonight!

One Thing - 10/13/14

Since today was Columbus Day, Jonah did a couple of activities about Columbus for school this morning -

A color-by-addition-fact Santa Maria that he is trying to sail by blowing it across the table. It had lots of shipwrecks today!

One Thing - 10/12/14

The 2 year olds - Kindergarten Sunday School classes at church sang two songs for the congregation at the start of the worship service this morning. The kids did a great job! Lydia was in true Lydia form - mouth percussion during one song, jumping across the stage in between songs, then standing completely still with a sweet grin on her face during the second song.

Jonah on the left end, Silas 4th from the left, Lydia 5th from the left

I love how Lydia is so sweetly looking up at Miss Karen, who she adores!

"This Little Light of Mine" - and Lydia is now on the left end!

One Thing - 10/11/14

It was quite the day at our house today! We started with school for Jonah. We hurried to finish what we needed to do in time for Lego club at 10:30. Thankfully, we made it in time. The theme for building today was monsters. Jonah and Silas built some neat creations and shared them with the group.

After Lego club, we walked to the bakery to buy some donuts. We headed back to our car by the library/park and saw that some of our friends were playing at the park. So, we decided to stay for awhile. We arrived home for a late lunch of donuts (and a bunch of other random items to fill hungry bellies). After getting the 3 littlest ones down for naps, Jonah and I finished reading Mr. Popper's Penguins. Not long after Mike got home from work, we headed up to the fire station for their chili feed. Although we didn't know what to expect, we had a great time! We had chili, rolls, ice cream, and popcorn (real healthy eating day today, huh?!). We ran into a number of people we knew from church and the community. And, the kids got to enter in prize drawings. By a little after 6, it started getting really busy at the fire station, so we decided to head home.

Fire hats for all - even a pink one for Lydia

The boys and I tried to press some beautiful leaves we had found. During this activity, Mike got a text from some friends from church who were at the chili feed that Lydia and Jude won big wheel trikes in the drawing. Apparently after the first drawing of the night for a junior rifle, Lydia was the first girl prize drawn immediately followed by Jude as the first boy drawn. They called a few minutes later to see if we wanted them to bring the big wheels to us and to let us know that Jonah's name was drawn, too. He got two coupons for personal pizzas at Pizza Hut!

What a great day!

It may be a couple of years before Jude can ride his new toy!

One Thing - 10/10/14

My Grandma Kapusta turned 96 today! The kids and I were able to celebrate her birthday with her and the rest of our family last Saturday at her house. The picture above is of my grandma with her 3 granddaughters.

One Thing - 10/9/14

Throughout this school year, we are getting together with two other families every other week to do some sort of science project/lesson together. We are rotating houses/teachers each time. Today was my day to host and teach. We made lava lamps with oil and water. Everyone thought they were pretty cool!

The 4 boys on the right made their lava lamps first. Then, they demonstrated them for their moms and siblings. All of the younger siblings wanted to make one, too. Thankfully, I anticipated that might happen and had enough supplies for everyone.

And, after science was over, the kids had a snack and played. Ten kids age 6 and under is quite the experience! :)

One Thing - 10/8/14

This morning I put Jude down on the couch for a moment so I could get Jonah set up with some school work to do while I fed Jude. When I came back for Jude, Lydia exclaimed, "Mama, I feed Jude!"  Toy cake, mmmm!

One Thing - 10/7/14

Jonah lost baby tooth #3 today!

One Thing - 10/6/14

Fall is in the air! With our new gourd centerpiece on the table, we enjoyed a fall meal - meatloaf, butternut squash, and roasted potatoes.

Then, we had a movie night and watched Frozen for the first time. Everyone loved it!

One Thing - 10/2/14

Jude's most adorable new sleeping position:

And, Jude has become a thumb-sucker over this past week. I have such mixed feelings about this!! He is my first thumb sucker. I don't know if I should be thrilled that he can soothe himself or if I should dread the fact that there will be a horrible habit to break in the years to come. The SLP inside of me is saying NO THUMB! But, the Mommy inside of me is saying "YAY! He can put himself back to sleep without his paci!"

One Thing - 10/1/14

Two things from our day:

After picking Sy up from preschool on this chilly, rainy day, we went to the grocery store to pick up something for supper tonight. At the store, we discovered this riding horse toy. The kids begged to ride it. I said only if I had 3 quarters which is rare. To my surprise and theirs, I had 3 quarters. So, we went to ride the horse and found out that it is free! I guess I know what will be happening at the grocery store from now on.

For Jonah's history lesson today, he had to create a photo timeline of his family. I think I will enjoy having these pics hang in our family room for a little while.
